Abstract

Reproductive hormones seem to be related to SLE expression, so it is important to study gender differences concerning the clinical presentation and disease prognosis. Previous researches have been studied SLE in men in different series and ethnic groups and although there were some discrepancies, the general conclusion was that men differed from women in disease expression, in both clinic manifestations and auto-antibodies characteristics. The objective of this study is to characterize the clinic and laboratory manifestations and the disease evolution of men patients of a 1000 SLE patients cohort of Unicamp - Hospital das Clínicas, from 1974 to 2011 in comparison of female patients.
