Abstract

According to estimates of the Brazilian Association of Treatment, Recovery and Disposal of Special Waste (ABETRE) from 2.9 million tons of toxic waste generated in Brazil, only 850,000 receive adequate treatment. The rest are improperly disposed in landfills or dumped in waterways without any treatment. According to the literature various agriculture residues are use as potential adsorbents for the removal of metal ions and dyes present in wastewater. However, most of the studies investigating the preparation of bio-adsorbents carbonized and this is an expensive recycling process. On the other hand, there are few studies reporting the study of equilibrium and kinetics of adsorption of dyes on adsorbents called in this project in natura agricultural residues. The aim of this project is a study of retention of crystal violet dye in corn residue (cob). In order to promote maximum retention parameters such as contact time (adsorption kinetics); particle size of adsorbent; effect of the amount of adsorbent and the influence of pH value will be evaluated. Keeping some variables constant and varying the amount of adsorbate, the experimental results will be applied to kinetic models and the adsorption isotherm. Finally the agriculture residue will be applied in the retention of the dye present in effluent from the textile industry. (AU)
