Abstract

The undergraduate research project involves the study of non-linear properties of solids doped with rare earths, using mainly the Z-scan technique. Our results indicate that the effects of energy transfer between Tb3+ ions must be important. The plan of activities for the internship at Univ. Caen, with Prof. R. Moncorgé (CIMAP laboratory) is about spectroscopy measurements of rare earths doped materials, particularly measures excited state absorption (ESA) in material is doped with Tb3 +. The measure of ESA for solid-state laser materials is one of the specialties of CIMAP. These measures are important not only for effects of energy transfer, but also to explain the physical (spectroscopic) origin of the polarizability difference (Dap) between the excited and fundamental states of rare earth ions in photonic materials. This research is integrated to a scientific collaboration between the two groups, which began 4 years ago, and is currently supported by CAPES-COFECUB project. (AU)
