Abstract

The aging process causes changes in the musculoskeletal system, leading to sarcopenia and resulting decreases in muscle strength. However, weight training is considered a great strategy in promoting and maintaining health and improves different expressions muscle strength. Among the variables TP, intensity and movement velocity (MV) have an important role in the different responses of muscle strength, acute and chronic. Thus, this study aims to: 1 study - to analyze the acute effect of age and of different relative intensities on the MV and muscle performance in trained women; study 2 - analyzing the effect of age and eight weeks of weight training, with different MV on muscle performance in trained women. For both, participate in this study15 young women (18-25 years) and 15 older (aged 60 years), with experience in WT for at least eight weeks. In study 1, before and after two sessions of exercise on leg press machine with different intensities (10 and 15 RM), will be evaluated muscle activation and isometric force-time curve on the leg press, as well as have the MV in each series measured by shooting. For Study 2, will initially be evaluated muscle activation and isometric force-time curve in leg press and then the groups will be submitted to the WT protocol, lasting eight weeks, in the leg press exercise with intensity of 80% of 15 RM and different MV, slow group (30°/s) and fast group (90°/s) and, after a period of WT are again evaluated for muscle activation and isometric force-time curve in leg press. The control of the MV in the leg press exercise will be conducted by a metronome. For statistical analysis, the study will be used the first two-way ANOVA to verify possible differences between groups (young and old) and conditions (10 and 15 RM). And for the second study, the three-way ANOVA will be used to identify possible differences between groups (young and old), condition (VM fast or slow VM) and time (pre and post-training). The level of significance is P <0.05.
