Abstract

This project embraces an analysis of the film Andrei Rublev, by Andrei Tarkovsky, which attempts to reflect over the filmmaker's approach to the imagery concept implied in the Russian painter's icons. Such thing demands an examination of these forms which links the cinema to the image issue. Under this context, the analogy relation is not sufficient to define the image and it is still more restricted to understand the byzantine icon. That is because the idealized figure, way before expressed under any bory in this world, shows the hopefulness of its transcendence. The new arts history (Hans Belting, W.J.T. Mitchell and others) foresees the image connection with the world and language like possible aspects of it only, and therefore, insuficient to understand its whole complexity. The image goes beyond the analogy and the speech then. In order to understand it, the analisys of Tarkovsky'film becomes quite relevant once it matches to the iconic tradition. (AU)
