Abstract

The production of ethanol from sugar cane natural source of energy, clean and renewable had raised in recent years in Brazil. Much of this evolution originated in creation of incentive programs for ethanol production, as was observed in the 70th and 80th by the creation of "Proálcool." In a process fermentation which occurs in the production of ethanol itself, this process happens in biological reactors where ethanol appears as a fermentation byproduct of microorganisms. The use of fermentation broth with high substrate concentration (which aren't the convencional) has a great interest to industry because it reduces significantly the volume of vinasse and bioreactor's volume when compared to current processes. Moreover, due to large amounts of ethanol in the broth, less energy is consumed in the extraction process. However, this high concentration of ethanol inhibits the fermentation, thus, resulting in the need of the ethanol be withdrawn from the broth as soon as it is produced. In this way, has as a general objective the development of a working process by extractive fermentation gas stripping in order to extract ethanol from the fermentation broth as it is produced, thus eliminating the inhibitory effect on the yeast metabolism, becoming the process more efficient and productive.
