Abstract

The urbanization process is manifested by the configuration of a set of different urban uses, according to the interests and strategies of geographical space producer agent, which have to be regulated by legislation in order to curb, regulate and plan the urban expansion course. Therefore, urban perimeter legislation becomes a legal instrument which should meet this demand in urban planning and management. The main objective of this research is to understand the meaning of the relationship between the urban and urbanized area in the geographical space production process in the metropolitan area of Campinas (RMC). This relationship reveals the action of various agents involved and their strategies, which result in a certain urban space configuration. In order to perform this research, it is suggested to use the necessary infrastructure for the acquisition, processing and analysis of geographic space through the geotechnologies. Due to the information and space relationships complexity in the RMC, the use of geotechnologies in the understanding process is found as the best choice to deal with these complexities. For urban planning and management, the geotechnologies allow us to identify possible patterns, helping to understand the geographical space production in the metropolitan area. Therefore, every issue, such as urbanization, actual and legal urban limits, the chosen region, which has very economic importance& they all justify the importance of promoting this study in order to contribute to the understanding of the relationships in the geographical spaces production process, and also a better understanding of the dynamics found in the RMC.
