Abstract

The family Chloropidae is represented by three subfamilies, one of which are the Chloropinae. This subfamily has worldwide distribution, with 75 genera, of which 19 are known from the Neotropical fauna. This fauna is still poorly known and there is the need of proper understanding of the connections between the group in the Neotropical Region with the knowledge of the fauna in global level-in other words, there is still no cladistic analysis for the entire subfamily. The need to have a global system for the diversity of the group integrating all biotas demands the knowledge of the genera of Chloropinae not occurring in the Neotropical region. This is to be done with a visit to foreign research institutions whith material from the North America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia faunas of the subfamily. This project proposes a 11 months stay in two European institutions which house most of these genera. The first five months will be spent at the Natural History Museum, London, and the other six at the Bielefeld University. The visits will occur after a initial period in Brazil in which the Neotropical Chloropinae diversity will be studied, optimizing the stay in these institutions. (AU)
