Abstract

One of the obstacles implant is the quality and quantity of bone available in the region receiving the implants. In the absence of sufficient bone tissue, must use a technique for bone grafting in order to recover the lost tissue and permit reclamation of the area by means of implants. The use of nanostructured biomaterials able to release substances that can promote the reconstitution of the bone tissue is a promising and underexplored. Thus, this project aims to develop polymer membranes based on hybrid organic-inorganic materials of polyether-type ureasil for subcutaneous implantation and with potential application in the release of substances that promote bone reconstruction. The structural characteristics and mechanical characteristics of the hybrid membranes strongly depend on the chemical nature of the polyether used in the synthesis of hybrid materials. Therefore, in this project the conditions of synthesis of these membranes will be studied and the structural and mechanical properties are controlled by mixing different ratios weight / weight polyethers with high hydrophilicity and swelling and other low degree of hydrophilicity and swelling. From these mixtures is intended to obtain biocompatible membranes, which have flexibility and high mechanical strength characteristics suitable for use in sub-cutaneous implants. This project is part of a partnership between the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences who will be responsible for the synthesis of hybrids, structural characterization, and testing of swelling tests sterilization with the Faculty of Dentistry, who will be responsible for testing of biocompatibility of the material.
