Abstract

Major depressive disorder is an important public health problem because it is prevalent and the high degree of disability. Much of this impairment is related to the patient's clinical condition. Epidemiological studies generally identify cases, but do not study their clinical condition. This would be possible by measures of well-being, because follow-up studies of clinical patients have shown that the measurement of well-being can be an indicator of improvement in clinical condition more important than measures of symptom reduction. Objective: To study the clinical condition, as measured by the score of subjective well-being, in patients with major depressive disorder identified in the general population, and associated factors (service use, medication and demographic). Method: A cross-sectional study of the São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro with random stratified multi-stage sample. The diagnosis of depression was made from the application of the "Composite International Diagnostic Interview" (CIDI) version 2.1. Well-being was assessed using the Subjective Well-Being (SUBI). The analysis of the association between depressive patients with high and low well-being, and demographic and service use variables will be made by a logistic regression model. Expected results: we expect to find that individuals with depressive disorder and high well-being, those of better clinical condition, have significant associations with greater service use, medication use and demographic variables that indicate a lesser degree of impairment, such as, for example, married and health service used.
