Abstract

The higher education pedagogy has been constituted, in the last two decades, as an important and promising field of production of knowledge and practices in Brazil, covering not only the area of education, but also some such as health and engineering. The convergent point that mobilizes research and educational processes in this field is the need to discuss the pedagogical practice in higher education, need that is based on the identification of two problems: the valuation of research at the expense of education (this especially in the case of public universities, which develops most of the scientific research in Brazil) and the idea that the domain of a certain scientific content or a good experience in a particular professional field is enough to become university teachers. However, the higher education pedagogy field, which was born in a critical perspective to the organizational model of the university and to how it thinks the axis of teaching, ended up embarking on the same problem that the didactics and pedagogy field in 1970 and 1980: the overvaluation of the technical dimension in teaching. Thus, in order to criticize the path that the higher education pedagogy field has taken, this work seeks to develop an ethnographic research with classroom observations in order to understand its dynamics, dynamics that this field has not picked up on its wealth of details and determinations, as well as to understand how higher education in Brazil has been set up in order to understand the limits and possibilities of the researches in the higher education pedagogy field.
