Abstract

My doctorate's project, Political Black Elite in Brazil, investigates the relationshipamong the black movement, political parties and State in Brazil, from 1978 through2010. For the project's development, I work with documental sources, especiallyarticles and other documents written by Black activists, political parties, andgovernments. In this sense, my sejour at Princeton University will be very importantbecause I would be able to have access to dissertations, Black newspapers, andpamphlets digitalized and available at the Firestone Library Microforms Services, specially the Blacks in Brazil Pamphlets. Moreover, I intend to get a betterunderstanding of the influence of African-American activists on Afro-Brazilian ones, analyzing the nature of their political exchanges during that period. Therefore, Dr.Edward Telles' guidance will be fundamental as he knows well the Brazilian politicalreality and its racial inequalities. (AU)
