This PhD project is linked to the projeto temático "São Paulo Regional Analysis Center: Participation in the DZero and CMS experiments" number 2008/02799-8, coordinated by Professor Dr. Sergio F. Novaes, whose goal is to investigate the fundamental interactions through experiments performed by the D0 collaboration at Fermilab and CMS at CERN.The student will analyse the data from the CMS experiment at the LHC, investigating events associated with proton-proton collisions. The CMS is a general purpose detector, allowing the study of physics within the predictions of the Standard Model and its possible extensions, which can appear in the TeV energy scale.The SPRACE group has been studying possible signs of physics beyond the Standard Model at the LHC. In particular, we are involved in analyses exploring possible productions of heavy bosons with masses from about 500 GeV, which decay in pairs of gauge bosons of the Standard Model resulting in final states with leptons, jets and missing energy. In this project the student will have an active participation in this analysis, investigating the signature pp--X--ZV--llqq, where V = W, Z.
