Abstract

We shall study the statics and the dynamics of dipolar Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) by using a variational method and the numerical solution of the time-dependent mean-field nonlinear Gross-Pitaevskii equation. In particular, we explore the stability properties of dipolar condensates with respect to s-wave and dipolar interactions for different trap geometries. We shall specially consider quasi one- and two-dimensional solitons of dipolar BECs. To study the stability, we use the phase plot relating the s-wave and dipolar interactions. We shall also study the properties of two interacting BECs, one or both of them could be dipolar.
