Abstract

The colloidal stability of poly(ethylene glycol)-decorated poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA/PEG) particles will be systematically investigated in the presence of mono-and divalent Hofmeister cations (nitrate as counter-ion) by means of phase separation analyzer, dynamic light scattering, zeta potential measurements and small angle X-ray scattering. The study aims understanding the colloidal behavior of these systems, considering not only the variations of electrostatic potential predicted by DLVO theory, but also the specific interaction between NH4+, K+, Na+, Ca2+ e Sr2+ cations and PEG on the particles surfaces.
