Abstract

The protein extracted from rubber trees (Hevea brasiliensis) has interesting properties with respect to the cicatrization of bone and soft tissues, being biocompatible and with high angiogenic potential. This study aims to evaluate the bone healing process in bone defects in rat calvaria using different types of bone grafts and P-1 protein extracted from Hevea brasiliensis (natural latex) and the association between these grafts and this protein, using histological, stereological, radiographical, immunohistochemical, biochemical and statistical methods. It will be used 112 male Wistar rats (250g) divided into 8 groups, each one with 4 and 6 weeks until the sacrifice. The groups are the following: 1) particulate autologous bone graft, 2) particulate homologous bone graft, 3) heterologous bone graft (lyophilized bovine bone), 4) particulate autologous bone graft + 5µg P-1, 5) homologous bone graft + 5µg P-1, 6) heterologous bone graft (lyophilized bovine bone) + 5µg P-1, 7) 5µg P-1, 8) cirurgical bone defect only. The results for bone formation will be evaluated by the presented methods, and the resulting data will be subjected to statistical examination.
