Abstract

Forging is a metal forming process in which a billet is deformed to various shapes with large plastic deformations. The advantages of this process, consisting of high dimensional accuracy, increased mechanical properties, and low waste of material compared to other forming processes, stimulate an increase in its application. The objective of this project is the development of the multi-directional forging using a hydraulic press with five cylinders. The purpose is to cause incremental strains during forging with minimal or without burr formation, avoiding great loss of material and to demonstrate the possibility of achieving more complex details without requiring high loads or even without the need of many forging steps when compared to the conventional process used in industry. To achieve these objectives , the process will be simulated by the finite element method to determine the ideal process conditions which will be used in forging tests to validate the simulation results and prove the suitability of the process proposed in this project.
