Abstract

Objective: To investigate the effects of transcranial direct current stimulation in the motor cortex, associated with gait training on the functional and static balance in children with cerebral palsy (CP). Materials and Methods: A population sample that will be part of this project will consist of 24 children with CP between four and 12 years old. Children will be randomly allocated into two groups (control group: gait training on the treadmill with transcranial stimulation placebo; Experimental group: gait training on the treadmill with transcranial stimulation active) and evaluated at three different times (pre-intervention and post-intervention one month after the interventions). The assessment will consist of quantifying the static equilibrium (force platform, Platform model Kistler 9286BA) and functional balance (Berg Balance Scale). The trainings will be held for two consecutive weeks, with five training sessions per week (30 minutes). The transcranial stimulation will be performed in primary motor cortex during training sessions, with an intensity of 1 mA. The results will be statistically analyzed assuming a significance level of p d 0.05.Keywords: cerebral palsy child, physiotherapy, cerebral cortex, electrical stimulation
