Abstract

Objective: to analyze the effect of age and of different intensities (80% and 100% of 15 RM) on a) a number of repetitions in three sets on the leg press and elbow flexion, b) volume in three sets in exercises leg press and elbow flexion, c) rate of force development (RFD and peak RFD) d) maximum voluntary isometric contraction (MVC). Materials and Method: Participants of this study will be 30 women, 15 elderly, and 15 young people with previous experience in resistance training (RT) for at least eight weeks with a frequency of three times per week and approximately 45 minutes per session. During the RT will be performed three sets of 15 repetitions, rest interval between sets of 1 minute. Participants will be evaluated in the horizontal leg press (Righetto Fitness Equipment) and elbow flexion. Will be performed three experimental sessions, one session at 100% of 15 RM, the other 80% of 15 RM, and a control session in both exercises, totaling three visits per exercise. In one session, participants will perform three sets of muscular hypertrophy, with the intensity of 100% of 15 RM. The other session will involve two sets of 15 repetitions and only the third series to muscular concentric with the intensity of 80% to 15 RM, and finally, a session control is performed only with curve evaluations of force isometric time (MVC, and RFD and peak RFD). The evaluation of the isometric force-time curve will be held before the first round and after the third series, the end of each condition, in order to examine the temporal pattern of possible changes in muscle. Statistical analysis will be used three-way ANOVA to verify differences between time points (pre-and post-workout), condition (80 and 100 of 15% RM), and groups (young and old).(AU)
