Abstract The genus Chinavia Orian comprises 79 species broadly distributed in the Afrotropical, Neartic and Neotropical regions. Some species groups have been proposed based on morphological similarity, as the geniculata group. That group includes 13 species broadly distributed in South America, that shows unique patterns of body shape and genital morphology. Those genital features are often used in taxonomic and phylogenetic studies of insects due to their high rates of interspecific variation. However, they are poorly understood from an evolutionary perspective. Within Pentatomidae, genital structures have only been superficially explored, and we are far from understanding the evolutionary processes behind its diversification. This work aims to propose a phylogenetic hypotesis to the geniculata group and test whether the sexual selection plays an important role in both male and female genital evolution. | |
