Abstract

In this research project we intend to investigate the integrated lot sizing and cutting stock problem, that consists in an optimization problem that considers simultaneously decisions related to the lot sizing problem and to the cutting stock problem. The goal is to capture the interdependence between these decisions in order to enable economy of raw materials and reduction of production and inventory costs. Mathematical models and solution methods from literature will be analyzed, and new models, based in practical cases where possible, will be proposed. We intend to develop solution methods for solving the mathematical models, for example, solution methods based on Lagrange relaxation and Dantzig-Wolfe decomposition, as well as, ways to use these methods together in a hybrid method combining the strengths of both methods.
