Abstract

In the narrative of the story of the Spanish conquest in the sixteenth century, the attendance and testimony experience Indies become claimed main condition for much of the Spanish chroniclers for the transmission of real events. In comparison with the chroniclers of "oida", so named because they never were in the New World and so if the facts reported by the oral account of others or by reading texts ever published on the subject, these chroniclers of "vista" emphasize the personal experience on these lands, highlighting the dangers faced and the efforts undertaken as a determinant axis for writing the history of the conquest. Taking into account these considerations, the objective of this research is to what extent the appreciation for being witness of view may have contributed to the enhancement of these chroniclers personnel. From that first question, another arises in a complementary way: see how these writers used the experience of view Indies to affirm a set of values - especially of honor, courage and faith - expressed in Spanish society of the sixteenth century.
