Abstract

Metabolic syndrome (MS) is characterized by the association of type 2 diabetes mellitus or glucose intolerance, obesity, hypertension, and dyslipidemia. These changes receive treatment recommendations with various medications. And these conditions were previously linked independently to dry eye syndrome. The aim of this study is to investigate the association between MS and dry eye syndrome. For this, we designed a cross-sectional study in which 20 patients with MS and 20 healthy volunteers will be evaluated for ocular discomfort, fluorescein staining, and lissamine green time of tear film breakup (TRFL), Schirmer test without anesthetic test osmolarity. Since these same patients are evaluated for their body composition by measuring triceps, weight, height, waist circumference, and BMI. The evaluation will yield comparatively confirm the change, as well as through correlations between findings, observe potential pathophysiological mechanisms.(AU)
