Abstract

Neurogenic Detrusor hyperactivity and urinary incontinence (UI) can bring discomfort to social life, and also health issues, causing frequent infections. Objective: The objective of the present study is to evaluate the effect of electrical stimulation of the posterior tibial nerve in neurogenic Detrusor hyperactivity and urinary urgency incontinence. Method: Will be part of the study, women with multiple sclerosis and urinary symptoms of Detrusor hyperactivity of neurological origin. For evaluation of Detrusor hyperactivity will be taken the complaints of individuals, applied questionnaires to check lifestyle, functional evaluation and urodynamic and electromyographic studies will be carried out. The intervention program will be composed of 30 sessions of 20 minutes each, with posterior tibial nerve electrical stimulation, three times a week. After 10 sessions, the participants will be reevaluated with the questioning of specific data about urinary incontinence and voiding urgency. All the information will be logged. After 30 sessions, women will be reevaluated for their urinary complaints and conduct a new urodynamic study. The statistical analysis and the choice by comparison tests between the variables will be performed respecting the assumptions determined by the results, characteristics, and behavior of the variables of the study. Results: With the results of this research we will establish preventive actions of UI and urgency to urinate, and interfere positively in UI incidence and the lifestyle of women with multiple sclerosis, which will be used to better direct clinical practice in health services.(AU)
