Abstract Cyanobacterias biosynthase a great variety of secondary metabolites with a wide range of bioactivities. Although initially, toxins would be the metabolites that mainly attracted the attention of researchers all over the world, nowadays the amount of novel compounds with potential therapeutic application isolated from these microorganisms is continuously increasing. In this study, various species of freshwater cyanobacteria autochthonous from Brazil (Microcystis sp., Pseudoanabaena sp., Oscillatoria sp., Sphaerospermopsis torques-reginae e Cylindrospermopsis sp.) will be screened for the presence of novel compounds with potential biomedical application. For this purpose, bioassay-guided isolation methods will be developed and novel compounds will be fully characterized and their bioactivities will be established. | |
