Abstract

In rainfall-runoff modeling calibration, significant errors may occur due to compensations in parameters estimation, in order to overcome the uncertainties inherent to the referred transformation process. Therefore, it is seems reasonable the attempt to consider the uncertainties during the calibration process, aiming to reach more reliable results. The literature review on the uncertainty analysis pointed out that there has been much discussion over existing methods, dividing the researchers' opinions regarding to the most proven or promising methodologies. The objective of this project is an extensive study on uncertainties related to the calibration process, which is necessary to fundament the choice and implementation of an uncertainty analysis method applied the calibrator tool previously developed by the applicant. The DAG (Data Assimilation Group), under supervision of Professor Hoshin V. Gupta, from the University of Arizona, has large experience in calibration and uncertainty analysis, and the knowledge exchange with this group can effectively provide important contributions to this research project.
