Abstract

Accidents with exposure to blood and body fluids (AEBBF) are ordinary among nursing staff and its potential hazards becoming them a worldwide Public Health concern. Traditional paradigm is the hegemonic work accident analysis, it regards only visibles and specifics elements at the accident moment. However, in this context there are latent variables that contribute for occurrence of this undesirable event, systemic model of work accident analysis regards latent variables. Model of Analysis and Prevention Accidents (MAPA) is an instrument developed from the systemic paradigm. The aim of this epidemiologic study with mixed cohort is to identify the labor factors contribution highlighted by MAPA, to AEBBF among the nursing staff do Instituto Central do Hospital das Clínicas da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (ICHC FMUSP). MAPA results highlighted the follow labor factors: job strain, work social support, work load, working time as nursing staff and training. Exposures variables came from these factors. Adjusted variables will be also investigated, and they were joined in three groups: sociodemografic; life style; health status. Both exposures and adjusted variables will be collected by interview with the nursing worker, and we intend to interview all nursing staff. Outcome data will come from of the AEBBF notifications of the ICHC FMUSP. Cohort will be followed for 24 months, 12 months before and 12 months after the nursing worker interview. Frailty models will be applied at the statistical analysis, it is a kind of survival analysis that takes into account context variables. In this study they will be characteristics of the work sectors as absenteeism, turnover and nursing staff sizing.
