Abstract

In the context of advancing deforestation in the Amazon rainforest highlights the agroforestry systems as an alternative way of production that enable greater environmental conservation and greater socioeconomic contribution to the local communities, when it´s compared of extensive cattle. In São Félix do Xingu - PA, a group with 47 rural producers, being their properties size around 70 to 90 ha, uses agroforestry systems with cocoa, it´s around 8 ha, and more 37 ha of cattle in average. The most agroforestry systems with cocoa have between 7 to 12 years old, with density greater than 500 plants/ha, and it was installed on degraded pasture, intercropping with bananas in the early years, and letting the native regeneration. The object of this study is the forest dynamics, soil conservation and a brief socioeconomic survey about the cocoa production in agroforestry systems. To make this, will be collected some variables related to the structure and composition of SAF-Cocoa, through forest mensuration and phytosociological survey. Also will be applied a semi-structured questionnaire to directly collect the information from the farmer, as costs, income and satisfaction with SAF-Cocoa. We expect the results make possible to analyse the SAF-Cocoa as a tool of degraded areas recovery.
