Abstract

The equine semen freezing enables storage the genetic material of stallions for an unlimited time and mate animals geographically distant. However, the semen of some stallions, especially Mangalarga Marchador breed, has inadequate quality after thawing for use in artificial insemination. Some authors have described the composition and proportion of the lipids that make up the plasma membrane of the sperm interferes with the cell resistance to damage from sperm cryopreservation. This way, this study aims to to analyze the lipid profile of the plasmatic membrane of the sperm of stallions and determine their relationships with their resistance to freezing sperm. In addition, the objective is to check for differences in these lipid components of the plasmatic membrane of sperm from different breeds stallion. For this will be used 40 stallions, 20 animals (10 Quarter Horse and 10 Mangalarga Marchador) with semen with good resistance to freezing sperm and 20 stallions (10 Quarter Horse and 10 Mangalarga Marchador) with sperm susceptible to damage due to freezing. The semen will be collected in an artificial vagina and kinetic analysis will be performed and sperm plasmatic membrane integrity in semen before and after freezing. Analysis the lipid profile of sperm plasmatic membrane in the fresh semen will be made using the technique of mass spectrometry MALDI-TOF.
