Abstract

Lymphomas belongs to a group of malignancies that have in common their origin in lymphoreticular cells and is generally manifested in lymphoid tissues. As a systemic disease, antineoplastic chemotherapy is routinely used in the treatment of lymphomas, however the imbalance in the immune system may facilitate the occurrence and spread of cancer. The immune system comprises a complex and articulated network by several integrated components such as cells and their receptors, mediating molecules reactions, biochemical pathways, etc., that allow the organism to interact with different antigenic stimuli. Thus, cells with regulatory function are key components of immune tolerance, and regulatory T cells (Tregs) targets research on physiological function and its involvement in various diseases, such as infectious, allergic, neoplastic, autoimmune and in the field of immunology of transplants. There are evidence that Tregs alter the effector function against tumors and result in T cell dysfunction in humans and dogs with cancer, the same occurs with Th17 cells. Thus, purposes of this study are to evaluate the immunohistochemical expression CD4, CD8, CD25 (IL-2), IL-17 and FOXP3 in cats with alimentary lymphoma, and depending on the results, correlate the expression of these markers with disease-free interval and overall survival.
