Abstract

This project aims to clarify how is the relationship between director and performer in the BPI method (Researcher-Dancer-Performer, in portuguese). What is the uniqueness of this relationship in this method? And how important is this uniqueness to the performer and to the production in the performing arts? We will seek to answer these questions, through questioning of how relationships between directors and performers happen.Another important point of this project is that it will happen through a creative process in the BPI method. For this, our starting point is a field research with traditional midwives. Often, in the BPI method, we use an analogy of the relationship between director and performer with the relationship between midwife and parturient. From what is experienced in the field next to midwives, we will seek a better understanding of this analogy. We believe that the explanation of how is the relationship between director and performer in BPI may contribute to other creative processes in the performing arts. That's because it can bring up other references from which is possible to look at this relationship. It is intended to go through all the stages that BPI proposes to the creative process, to unravel the interaction between director and performer in each one. The researcher will be the interpreter of the creative process, and the advisor will be the director. With this, we want to validate the role of the artist-researcher-participant as an important aspect in the development of this project. To enlarge the references and provide clarity on the subject of this research, we will also make an analysis of other methods and creative processes. For example: the relations arising from the German Tanztheater, the method Stanislawsk and traditional Brazilian companies, (for example, Grupo Corpo, among others). This will be done through bibliographical studies, observation in locus and interviews.
