Abstract

Arterial hypertension is a multifactorial disease, affecting nearly 30% of Brazilians aged 40and more. Higher blood pressure (BP) is associated to higher probability of target organdamage, such as nephropathy, stroke, heart failure and retinopathy. Physical activity isknown to reduce BP after exercise, a phenomenon known as post-exercise hypotension. Inorder to acquire clinical relevance, hypotension values must be significantly higher both induration and magnitude. Although the circadian rhythm of BP is well known, post-exercisehypotension values measured in humans exercising at different times of day are stillundefined. Thus, the aim of present study is to evaluate post-exercise hypotension associatedto different times of day. Ten hypertensive women (stage 1) will perform resistance exerciseson three occasions per week (morning, afternoon, evening), along three weeks, with onecontrol session after each week of training. Twenty-four hours ambulatory BP measurementswill be performed continuously after each week of training sessions. Motor activity and wristtemperature data will be collected automatically with electronic actimeters and thermistorsalong the three training weeks. Data will be analyzed with the COSINOR method, considering p < 0.05 as the level of significance.
