Abstract

The anthropogenic activity, some decades ago, has been impacting ecosystems in the coastal region, and the Restinga has been injured by these actions. Thus, scientific research in this context is important to identifying possible mitigations of those impacts. Clusia criuva, a kind of family Clusiaceae commonly found in sandy coastal forests has great economic importance for the production of drugs and ornamentation. Aiming comparison between environments impacted forest of Rio de Janeiro (next to industries in the metropolitan area) and non-impacted environments (the area of the ecological station Juréia-Itatins in Peruíbe), considered apart from the influence of pollutants, studies will be undertaken of leaf anatomy of Clusia criuva, using the methods of light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and chemical analyzes of secondary metabolites using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and mass spectrometry. The results will provide analyzes of plant secondary metabolites for possible use in pharmacology and will give subsidies to interpret the quality of the environment, helping as a possible tool for monitoring environment.
