Abstract

The penile carcinoma (CaPe) is a public health problem in Brazil, especially in the North / Northeast of the country. CaPe is a locoregional disease, and 5-year survival rate drops dramatically in patients with lymph node metastasis. The etiologic factors include poor genital hygiene and phimosis, human papillomavirus (HPV), ultraviolet radiation, smoke, balanitis xerotica obliterans, and chronic liquen. The knowledge about the pathogenetic changes that occur in CaPe is still limited. The identification of molecular targets protein contributes to the development of diagnostic tests and therapeutic treatments. In this context, the aim of this project is to detect different protein profiles in usual cases of penile squamous cell carcinoma with or without HPV association, for this, an exploratory analyses by mass spectrometry using Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption-/ Ionization (MALDI) will be performed. Contributing to generate patterns of differentiation, this can be used in the development of molecular markers with diagnostic value for CaPe. (AU)
