Abstract The elastic optical networks aim to take advantage of the transmission capacity of the optical fibers in an efficient way, using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing, a method that uses subcarriers to transmit data simultaneosly in orthogonal overlapping frequencies. In this context, a new problem emerges, called routing and spectrum allocation, which allocates communication routes between the nodes using contiguous frequencies, in order to efficiently use the transmission spectrum. This work proposes an investigation of efficient methods for solving the routing and spectrum allocation problem, which is prooved to belong to the NP-complete set of problems, and incorporate energy efficiency in the solution. | |
