Abstract

The number of traffic accidents (TA) on roads, from which many of them had involved trucks, has been raising the awareness of public authorities. Moreover, the human factor has contributed with 90% of these TA. Considering that truck drivers are predisposed to engage in risky behaviors in order to feel free from the adverse conditions imposed by their occupational activity, they may be especially vulnerable to the occurrence of TA. Aims: to estimate the prevalence of risk and violent behaviors in traffic and their association with TA among truck drivers in the State of São Paulo. Work plan and schedule of execution: this project is scheduled for 12 months. Method: the fieldwork has been conducted since June/2012 (FAPESP Process N° 2011/11682-0). Participants have been asked to answer a research instrument on sociodemographic and occupational information, drug use, risk and violent behaviors in traffic, as well as their involvement in TA. Result analysis: the questionnaires have been stored in Epi-Info v.3.5.4 software. The descriptive analysis of data will be carried out in the Stata 8.0 software. Afterward, the participants will be grouped according to their involvement in TA (yes/no) in order to investigate the variables associated with TA. Finally, it will be carried out a multivariable logistic regression model - forward selection - to identify the determinants of TA among truck drivers. In all cases, the null hypothesis will be rejected when p <0.05. (AU)
