Abstract

The purpose of this project is to investigate the importance, the influence, the reasons why students use notebooks, and the role that they have on the school trajectory of students that are in the last year of Primary school. The investigation will take place on São Paulo's public state schools that are organized based on the Continued Progression é system. The Continued Progression system was planted in São Paulo's state schools in 1998 and it demanded a lot of changes on the school's operations, especially the ones concerning the organization of time to learn and to teach. Apart from that, during the last years of the '90s, many pedagogical proposals came out, for example, the ones about the simultaneous method of teaching and lectures. Taking into account that the notebook is a material which use was for a long time associated with the seriation model in which everybody writes and copies at the same time, the questions that guide this research are: how are the notebooks integrated to a school context that suffered so many changes? Which is, for the students, the role of the notebooks? In other words, why do students use notebooks? Those questions will be investigated having as main source the students that will be interviewed and will have their notebooks investigated. The notebooks analysis will be systemized based on Antonio Viñao Frago classifications and the interviews will have as reference the idea of the notebook as a scholarly device. (Chartier, Gvirtz e Viñao Frago, for example). (AU)
