Abstract

Classical music activates the parasympathetic nervous system and reduce sympathetic nervous system, and heart rate reduction. The heart rate variability (HRV) is a well recognized method that analyzes the cardiac autonomic regulation. However, it is not clear in the literature if acute exposure to classical music influences the HRV responses induced by the mental arithmetical test. Objective: to investigate the acute effects of classical music HRV responses induced by the mental arithmetic test. Method: the study will be performed in young adult men 18-35 years of age. We will analyze the contents of the time domain (SDNN, RMSSD and pNN50) and frequency (LF, HF, LF / HF) of HRV. The evaluation protocol will be based on the record to stand for 20 minutes. In this initial period the subject will remain with the headset off. After 10 minutes of initial registration, the individual will have 5 minutes to perform mental arithmetic exercise. In the music protocol, it will be exposed to music for 10 minutes and then again to the mental arithmetic test. The sequence of exposure to mental arithmetic exercises without music and with music is random from individual to individual. The indices of HRV are evaluated before, during, and 0-5 minutes 5-10 minutes after the autonomic test, to be made to analyze the effects during the exposure to music. (AU)
