Abstract

Education currently occupies a prominent position in economics discussion in Brazil, driven by researches that demonstrates not only its importance in individual's social promotion and in expanding its opportunities in the labor market, but also its influence on other variables, such as economic growth, income inequality, health, criminality and unemployment. This project aims to investigate how education has become one of the central economic issues in Brazil, as well as analyze the evolution of the discussion on the topic from the 50s to the present day, explaining the reasons why it reached a high level on a scale of relevance and expanded its field of investment attraction.
