Abstract

Reis, F.J.C., Pharoah, P.D.P. Molecular pathology and clinical outcome in ovarian cancer, 2013.Ovarian cancer is a condition with high mortality rates. However, recent results from studies about ovarian carcinogenesis and tumor biology are not yet used to the benefit of patients affected by the disease. The purpose of this study is to evaluate, in a large translational study involving several centers in the context of the international Ovarian Cancer Association Consortium Consortiun (OCAC), the new concepts of tumor biology and its implication in the disease outcome. We will evaluate baseline parameters (age, performance status, biological type and subtype, stage, debulking) and molecular markers (p53, PTEN, and ARID1A MAPK), according to the hazards associated with progression-free survival impairment and death by the disease. For the assessment of molecular markers expression, we will use automated immunohistochemistry in Tissue Micro Arrays. The results will be evaluated by a Cox proportional hazards model. The estimated sample is 3360 cases of ovarian cancer. The study will be conducted at the Centre for Cancer Genetic Epidemiology, University of Cambridge. (AU)
