Introduction: The epithelial ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer death among women. The molecular processes that influence the prognosis of patients with ovarian cancer are not understood, therefore it is necessary to identify molecules that enable the understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved in this type of tumor, such as miRNAs. Although many studies suggest the importance of miRNAs in the development of ovarian cancer, the differential expression of these molecules are poorly studied in patients with good or poor prognosis. Objective: To characterize the expression profile of miRNAs in samples of serous ovarian carcinomas in patients with good and poor prognosis. Methods: Forty samples of serous ovarian carcinoma will be selected, including twenty samples with good prognosis and twenty with poor prognosis. Ten normal samples will be microdissected and will be used as global non-tumor control pool. The identification of differentially expressed miRNAs in the samples will be performed by qRT-PCR using the TaqMan system cards human microRNA array 2.0 A + B. Also will be performed to validate the selected fabric fresh miRNAs, in silico search for potential gene targets of these miRNAs by algorithms such as miRWalk, Miranda, PicTar, miRBase and TargetScan and testing biological activity of miRNAs elected in culture ovarian cell, as well as evaluating the gene expression of targets of these miRNAs by qRT-PCR and protein by immunocytochemistry.
