Abstract

The objectives of this study are to assess serum levels of vitamin D and relate them to cognitive disorders, muscle strength, and falls. The transversal study will be evaluated 50 elderly outpatients of both genders, age above 60, who attended Clinic University Hospital. The procedures include evaluation of cognitive disorders - Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, applied only to geriatric outpatients with several diseases; Mini Mental, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), basic and instrumental activities of daily life - AIVDs and ABVDs protocols, social and demographic data, the occurrence of falls, corporal composition, hand strength test, serial levels of vitamin D (25OHD3). Data analysis of categorical variables, absolute and relative frequency - comparison between them; Chi-square and Fisher's exact test, continuous variables, average, standard deviation, median, Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis and Dunn multiple comparisons; the relationship between numerical variables-coefficient Spearman correlation. The level of significance is 5%, p <0.05. Expected results consist investigate the association between serum vitamin D, cognitive disorders, muscle strength, and falls. (AU).
