Abstract Troposphere-stratosphere Interaction processes are known to influence the development of cyclonic systems in surface both in the tropics (tropical cyclones) and extratropics (extratropical cyclones). Studies indicate a strong contribution of upper level potencial vorticity anomalies for secondary cyclogenesis occurring in eastern South America and the South Atlantic Ocean. However, in these regions there is not a known of what percentage and how this interaction modifies cyclonic events in general. Therefore, this project will investigate how the interaction between the upper troposphere-stratosphere affects the development of cyclones on the east coast of South America and the South Atlantic Ocean. More specifically, the goal is to understand how this interaction modifies or the intensity, lifetime, size, weather conditions associated and trajectory of these cyclones. The troposphere-stratosphere interaction will be studied through potencial vorticity anomalies (PVA) at upper levels. | |
