Abstract Purpose: to realize a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the prolongations in the speech of adults with persistent developmental stuttering (AWS) and adults who not stutter (AWNS). Methods: Thirty adults divided in two groups will participate of this study: Experimental Group composed by 15 adults with persistent developmental stuttering (AWS), and Control Group composed by 15 adults who not stutter (AWNS). The adults will be from 18 to 59 years old, of both genders. The inclusion criteria will be: present stuttering complaint by the participants, the stuttering must be initiated during the childhood, stuttering-like disfluencies (SLD) manifested by more than 12 months, have to demonstrate at least 3% stuttering-like-disfluencias (SLD) in speech sample obtained by examiner, and at least "mild" stuttering on the Stuttering Severity Instrument 4 (SSI-4). Two procedures will be used: fluency assessment and Stuttering Severity Instrument for the participants of the experimental group.
