Abstract

This research aims to study the processes that lead people to pursue careers as private or commercial air pilots and as flight attendants in Brazil. We are going to (I) examine how this occupation is organized today in Brazil, (II) study the space of private schools that provide training for it in Campinas, SP, as well as the training they provide, and also (III) investigate the social trajectories of students who attend the final stages of the training. Our research is based on a Bourdieusian perspective and seeks to establish the relationship between the career choices and, on one hand, the socialization, family, and school pathways of students, as well as, on the other hand, the institutional characteristics of these occupations and of the training market.
