Abstract

The present research has a general goal to contribute to urban solid wastes management in the municipality of Pirapozinho, São Paulo, by identifying the difficulties and challenges to the implementation of selective collection and cooperative collectors. As specific objectives will seek to analyze how is the solid wastes management in the municipality, know the living conditions and work of the people involved in the process of scavenging recyclable material, the existence and/or possibilities of organizing work among these people, as well diagnose the performance of municipal government relative the implementation of selective collection and cooperative collectors in the municipality. The methodological procedures include bibliographical survey and searches on websites; selection, reading, and summary of the material; monitoring of the job collectors ("participant observation"); development and application of questionnaires; preparing and carrying out of interviews; data analysis and preparation of the research report. The results will be made available to the municipal government, and other interested people to subsidize the organization of recyclable material collectors in the city of Pirapozinho. (AU)
