Abstract

This research aims to investigate how the Iranian-Kurdish filmmaker Bahman Ghobadi takes ownership of the means of production to build visual narratives of Kurdish children through analysis of films: A Time for Drunken Horses (2000) and Turtles Can Fly (2004). To create such films, Ghobadi was based on the life of children themselves and his works blend documentary and fictional genres. My hypothesis is that his films have a dialogue with the etnofictions created by Jean Rouch, because the director uses ethnographic research, improvisation in the filming and improvisation of the actors, who recreates themselves in front of the cameras, which refers to the shared anthropology practiced by Rouch. The option to escape from conventional norms is an option politics and aesthetics is also effective as a cinema of resistance. This way of shooting provides the decolonization of the image of otherness and is realized through the encounter with the other.
