Abstract

This research aims to study the social relations that involve two areas of the Amazon rainforest, which has developed tourist activities for the international public (Tupé Reserve and region of lakes, in Careiro Castanho-AM. This is a study of case which we intend to reflect on the theme of the recent transformations in a globalized world, especially regarding to the discussion of the dialectic of cultural authenticity. The main objective is to analyze the networks that are established between the local and the global in the contemporary world and its impact on the cultural dynamics of riverines and indigenous people. The main hypothesis is that the processes of globalization of culture entail heterogeneous effects in different locations and are experienced in different ways. As it is probable that they are constant the effects of homogenization of local cultures, globalized flows can also cause resistance processes or creative reappropriation of elements of an internationally popular culture, leading to appreciation, recreation, or ressignification of local cultures, and of conflicts. This discussion includes an analytical description of tourism in the region, its context in the contemporary world in, both, local and global context. Some theoretical issues involved refer to the concepts of globalization of culture, modernity, tradition, arena, conflict. The project proposes discussing the literature on the subject and also to carry out fieldwork, in order to capture important variables for understanding the research problem.
