Abstract

As people age they undergo physiological changes in the body and this process also occurs in laryngeal structures. All these physiological changes affect the voice quality and communicative performance in elderly. In the last two decades the scientific societies of health have encouraged researchers to conduct studies with strong evidence that can demonstrate the effectiveness of therapeutic methods. Knowing the need for research aiming to prove the scientific strength of the therapeutic methods and the need to develop models of therapy to show the impact of aging and its attendant compensation vocal in elderly, the aim of this study is investigate the impact a therapy program conducted in elderly patients with vocal characteristics presbyphonia in two ways: intensive ou twice a week. Will be evaluated 30 elderly subjects with presbyphonia. Evaluation will be performed prior laryngeal voice and an interval without any kind of therapy than the period when treatment is provided, and this will be intense (Four sessions per week for four weeks) or twice a week (for eight weeks ), totaling 16 therapy sessions. After the interval corresponding to the period in which therapy will be provided vocal individuals will be summoned again for evaluation and finally will start the therapeutic process. At the end of this new assessment will be conducted and two more follow-up assessments in the first and third month after treatment. The results will be tabulated and compared to see if there were changes in various aspects of speech of individuals.
