Abstract

Congenital heart diseases in dogs are the main cause of morbidity and mortality in puppies. The knowledge of the frequency of these diseases, based on age, gender and breed, can aid in clinical diagnosis. Some breeds have greater predisposition to certain congenital defect. Considering that the distribution of certain breeds follow a regional character, is of paramount importance that the study of prevalence be done for each country and region. Thus, this study aims to characterize congenital heart diseases in dogs considering age, gender and breed through retrospective analysis of cases diagnosed by Doppler's echocardiography. It is expected that the results obtained in this study may support the clinical diagnosis and therapy plan, improving survival and life's quality of affected animals.
